Chinese Textile Heritage, Reimagined for Modern Life
Brocade Modern brings remarkable Chinese textiles, embroidery and symbolic motifs into bags, scarves and objects designed to be carried, used, gifted and remembered.
We believe heritage feels most alive when it remains connected to everyday life. Our purpose is not to turn tradition into costume, but to present it with clarity, beauty and contemporary relevance for an international audience.
Why Brocade Modern Exists
China’s textile traditions hold extraordinary skill, pattern, texture and meaning. Yet many of these materials are either presented as distant history or reduced to decorative novelty. Brocade Modern was created to offer another path: pieces that respect where they come from while belonging naturally in the lives of people today.
Built by Yolanda and Jerry
Brocade Modern was founded by Yolanda and Jerry in Guangzhou, China. We began with a simple question: how can beautiful Chinese textiles and motifs become pieces that people genuinely want to use, carry and keep?
Yolanda leads product curation, visual storytelling, partnerships and customer relationships. Jerry supports digital operations, data and long-term brand development. Together, we work with specialized workshops, makers and production partners to develop, adapt and select collections for an international audience.
We are building Brocade Modern carefully rather than quickly. That means choosing pieces for material, construction, meaning and usefulness—not simply adding products because they are fashionable for a moment.
We guide product direction, assortment development, quality review, brand presentation, English-language storytelling and customer service. We describe craftsmanship at product level rather than applying one broad claim to every item.
Textiles, Techniques and Motifs with Meaning
Our collections draw from a range of Chinese materials and decorative traditions. The exact material and process vary by product, and we describe those details on the relevant product page.
Song Brocade
Richly woven surfaces, layered color and structured motifs give Song brocade a distinctive visual depth. We pair selected brocades with practical, contemporary bag silhouettes.
Embroidery
Selected collections draw on embroidery traditions such as Su, Xiang, Yue or Shu embroidery. Technique, production method and material are identified product by product whenever applicable.
Silk and Symbolic Design
Mulberry silk, landscape imagery and motifs such as lotus, begonia, cranes, horses and clouds allow a piece to carry both visual beauty and cultural meaning.
From Cultural Reference to Everyday Object
Different collections follow different production routes, but our evaluation process remains consistent: the cultural reference should be clear, the object should be useful, and the product information should be honest.
Research and Selection
We review the material, motif, intended use and visual character before deciding whether a product belongs within the Brocade Modern world.
Form and Function
We consider proportion, structure, hardware, capacity and how the piece will work in real life—not only how it appears in a photograph.
Quality Review
We review visible construction, stitching, finish, color, structure and packaging according to the needs of each product category.
Clear Storytelling
We create English product information, photography, care guidance and cultural context so international customers can understand what they are choosing.
Heritage Should Feel Relevant, Not Frozen in Time
We are drawn to quiet richness: material texture, thoughtful proportion, meaningful detail and forms that can move between daily life, travel, work and gifting.
- Respect the material. Let brocade, silk, embroidery or leather remain visible rather than covering them with unnecessary decoration.
- Make beauty useful. A bag should carry well, a scarf should drape comfortably, and a gift should feel considered when it is received.
- Keep references specific. We explain motifs and techniques when we have reliable product information, rather than using vague heritage language.
- Avoid sameness. We seek pieces with a recognizable point of view instead of reproducing ordinary mass-market accessories.
- Build for long-term appreciation. We prefer designs that can be enjoyed beyond one season or trend cycle.
Clearer Information Builds Better Trust
Our collections are developed and produced through specialist relationships rather than one identical production route. Depending on the design, a piece may combine woven textile, embroidery, leatherwork, machine stitching, hand finishing and structured assembly.
Brocade Modern coordinates product direction, assortment development, quality review, brand presentation and international customer service. We identify the relevant materials and techniques product by product instead of applying one generic craftsmanship statement to the entire catalog.
Four Principles Behind Brocade Modern
Respect for Origin
We present Chinese textiles and motifs with context and avoid treating cultural references as anonymous decoration.
Honest Product Information
We distinguish material, inspiration and technique, and update descriptions when more accurate information becomes available.
Useful Beauty
We choose objects intended for real life—pieces that can be worn, carried, displayed, gifted and enjoyed repeatedly.
Thoughtful Relationships
We value responsive service and long-term relationships with customers, creators, retailers and production partners.
