Description

Every year, Qing emperors would personally inscribe "Fu" (福) and New Year blessings, bestowing good fortune on the people. Emperor Kangxi's "天下第一福" ("The First Fortune Under Heaven") and Emperor Qianlong's "与物皆春" ("Everything Comes to Spring") symbolized imperial blessings for peace and prosperity. This tradition, starting from the 26th day of the lunar year and lasting until the 3rd day of the second month, is now honored with this set of spring couplets. A: Welcoming Spring with All Things（与物皆春）

"麟趾春深千岁酒, 莺声日暖四时花" — This verse comes from the entrance couplet of the Jingcui Palace at the Forbidden City, reflecting the tranquility and prosperity of the imperial court. The horizontal inscription "Welcoming Spring with All Things" is from the upper couplet of the Biling Pavilion in the Jianfu Palace Garden, written by Emperor Qianlong. It symbolizes a time of eternal spring, where all things are renewed and happiness is everlasting.

B: Welcoming Fortune（与福相迎）

"Welcoming Fortune" is derived from the plaque at the Tishuntang Hall in the Forbidden City, representing the welcoming of fortune and good luck. The character "福" (fortune) is taken from the famous "天下第一福" ("The Greatest Fortune in the World") written by Emperor Kangxi, symbolizing an endless flow of prosperity and happiness.
